Equipment Checklist
Towards being adequately prepared for walks we suggest suitable equipment/ provisions should include as a minimum, the following:

Equipment

  • Rucksack (35 litres) with waterproof liner
  • Suitable walking trousers/ shorts and shirt, not material that absorbs water like denim!
  • Good quality watrerproof cagoule and overtrousers
  • Suitable Footwear, minimum lightweight boots for good summer days and three seasons boot for other seasons, poor weather conditions, high altitude or rough walking
  • Warm Top(s), spare pair of socks
  • In colder weather – Gloves, warm hat and more clothing layers.
  • Map and compass with knowledge of how to use them
  • GPS is very useful but do carry map and compass as well - they have been known to fail!
  • Mobile Phone (if possible, may be intermittent reception so don’t rely on using it!)
  • First Aid Kit, Whistle

In winter spikes are always a good safety item to carry but are not a substitute for the correct ice and snow equipment when conditions dictate

Provisions
Water; at least 2 litres, more if weather is hot.
Lunch plus additional food for emergencies ie. Chocolate/ cereal bar(s)
Money for emergencies (phone, taxi, pub…)
Sun protection (sun cream and/or hat)
